Hello I am Linda Dudley. My daycare is a state licensed facility and is registered with the State Food Program with USDA Child / Adult Care food program." (More information about this can be found on the General Information page). I have been teaching and caring for children ages 2-5 years for over 25 years. (Resume available upon request. Simply email me and request a copy.) My,how the time flies by! It's so much fun watching children grow and learn about the world around them.
Teaching is a very rewarding experience for me. My inspiration comes from the children in my day care. Building self-esteem is extremely important for all children, but especially when they are young. Stimulating their young minds is essential for their academic growth. Once their minds are stimulated, they will continue to enjoy challenges as they grow.
The major method of teaching young children here at Aunt Linda's Group Home and Day Care is through Poetry. I actually started writing children's poetry learning books specifically for this purpose. I found that it is the easiest way for young children to remember the concepts they are being taught. I tried teaching the very same concepts without the poems and found it to be less interesting to the children and they quickly forgot the concepts! After I wrote my very first poem (a poem about Chlorophyll which we used to study leaves changing colors) the children memorized it quickly, and achieved a great sense of satisfaction from their accomplishment. This inspired me to continue writing. This led to a number of poetry books covering all the topics that we study, such as geography, many different scientific concepts. It is so exciting to see children learn concepts and be able to explain them to others, even when not reciting a poem. This tells me that they actually understand the concept. Children are capable of memorizing at a very young age, and can also internalize the information and relate it appropriately.
My day care is a loving environment for children to grow and learn. The children call me "Aunt Linda", which helps to create a family atmosphere which the children come to love. There is one very difficult aspect of my job...letting go of them when they are ready to move into first grade. My goal for my students, is to prepare them for kindergarten and to establish good self esteem. This is a time of mixed emotions for me. I know they are well prepared for their next challenge, however they will surely be missed. I love teaching and will continue to teach as long as God allows.
